Family Wii Night

// October 2nd, 2009 // No Comments » // Family, Gaming, Project 365

The best thing about Wii bowling is that I don’t have to watch my little princess struggle to pick up some heavy ball and throw it down a lane.

The worst part is that the kids are now better than me.

The Bride picked up the new Batman game for me today.

You can’t beat a wife that buys you games.

Lost & Found

In our home, there are little gremlins that steal toys which are never seen again. This little Leapster game has been missing for months – we’ve torn the place apart and have never been able to find it.

It returned today, hiding deep down in the crevasse of my Lazy Boy. Apparently there lies a portal to the gremlin world somewhere under my butt…

Pip-Boy

// June 2nd, 2009 // No Comments » // Gaming, Project 365

This little dude is Pip-Boy and he came packaged in with Xbox 360 version of Fallout 3.

That game stole 100 hours of my life and it was worth it. Now Pip-Boy keeps me company on my desk as a reminder of our good times together.

The Bride took off for Vegas today so I spent some time with my other wife, Ms. 360. She’s a jealous lover…

Next-Gen Jealousy

I think my 360 may be mad that I bought a Wii. Sometimes I catch the two exchanging hateful glances. And now there’s a strange bruise on my Wii’s nunchuk. (Yep – I giggled when I wrote that.)

All said, I feel like I’m swimming in gaming heaven right now. I’m playing through Lost Planet on the 360, the first AAA title to release this year on the system. (It’s amazing how far it’s come in just over a year.) It’s refreshing to see designers not only put out good looking titles but also place emphasis on a game’s story. This one is a winner.

On the Wii side of things, I’ve started The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. I’ve never played a Zelda game before (hell, I’ve never owned a Nintendo system before) but I definitely see why they’re so popular. It’s nothing like a 360 game (the graphics don’t even come close) and I think that’s why I’m enjoying it so much – it’s something completely different. I just hope that they can keep pumping out games on the Wii that will hold an adult’s interest…

Playing With My Wii

// January 10th, 2007 // 4 Comments » // Family, Gaming

By a stroke of good fortune, I came across a Nintendo Wii yesterday at a local gaming store. Frugal lad that I am, I immediately bought it.

I’ve never been much of a Nintendo fanboy but they really hit it out of the park this time! With the Wii, gaming becomes a full contact activity as it’s almost entirely motion sensor based. Hell, three rounds of boxing almost killled me.

Adding to the fun is that it’s the first “family” system I’ve ever owned. Kenna joined the bride and I in a round of Wii Bowling and almost beat us both!

Well done, Nintendo. Now give me a Virtual Console version of Shining Force and I’ll open-mouth kiss Satoru Iwata.

There Can Be Only One

I finished Gears of War last night. I didn’t think that Oblivion would be knocked off for best 360 game of the year but, alas, it got chainsawed to the face. Once I convince Stuart to get on Xbox Live I’ll check out the multiplayer.

Gears Of Greatness

If you own a 360 and you haven’t already, run out to your local game store and buy Gears of War.

Stop reading and go now. Seriously. It’s the game of the year.

Go!

As It Was Meant To Be

Another dream has become reality – I finally got my big screen TV.

I picked up a 42″ Samsung DLP HDTV on Wednesday. (I considered 46″ and 50″ but they were just too big for my living room right now.) I got a pretty sweet deal too, as the coupons and incentives knocked over $400 off the price.

The true glory, however, was when I connected the 360. HD is how that beast was meant to be played. I thought the graphics were great before – but I never realized how crappy they were compared to the HD graphics. DVD’s are the same way.

And what would a new TV be without new, comfy furniture? We also picked up a new sofa and matching recliner. The only problem is that Shannon has discovered how comfortable my recliner is and has gotten into the habit of snaking it before I come home from work. Oh well, snakes on a plane
